SPARC AND JAZZ DISPENSARY ANNOUNCE LAUNCH OF THE “PRIVATE STOCK SERIES”

Exclusively available at one of SPARC’s four dispensary outlets, Private Stock Series #001 features two classic songs that exemplify soul, funk, and good times. Not coincidentally, both also reference the joys of cannabis. This release is pressed on translucent blue colored vinyl and pressed in a limited run of only 500 copies at Jack White’s Third Man Pressing, out of Detroit, MI.

The single features “Mary Jane” by Bobby Rush on side “A” and “Fire Eater” by Rusty Bryant on side “B,” both first released in 1971. “Fire Eater” features an often-sampled break from drummer Idris Muhammad that listeners will easily recognize and of course, the incendiary sax lines of Bryant himself.

Produced in tandem with Jazz Dispensary, Private Stock Series #001 will retail for $15 on April 20^th at all SPARC outlets. Those who are shopping for cannabis that day will receive a $5 discount on the album if they spend $125 on dispensary goods; those who spend $200 or more will get this one-of-a-kind artifact for free while supplies last.

Private Stock Series #001 exemplifies a pairing that is easily made. “There’s a natural relationship between cannabis and music,” said SPARC director of product Joshua Hoffman. “Both cannabis and albums are tactile, something you can hold. Cannabis and music both alter your mind.”

Hoffman was inspired to do a one-of-a-kind album this year to also recognize Record Store Day, which is on Saturday, April 21. “We’re helping to create the good culture we want to be a part of,” he explained. This is a new venture for Jazz Dispensary, who has released an album for every Record Store Day event since April 2016 when their acclaimed Cosmic Stash box set launched the label. “We’re excited to continue the celebration for vinyl’s biggest day by creating a little buzz ahead of time,” says Jazz Dispensary producer and curator, Ryan Wilson. “Hopefully we can continue to drive conversation and celebration around one of the world’s most enjoyable pairings.”

“The songs are cannabis-inspired,” Hoffman said, “but they’re also just great songs with a lot of soul, funk, and jazz elements to them. These are real American musical styles that appeal to a diverse set of people.”
